Delhi, the citadel of power and culture of both medieval and modern India is capital of India and has been a centre of power almost continuously since the 13th century. This big city can be broadly segregated to Old Delhi and New Delhi for easy and exciting travel. Old Delhi comprises of the seventh city of the Mughals - Shajahnabad. The most outstanding feature of Old Delhi is the clear "visibility" of its historic past in its every stone.
In the annals of history, from the 12th to 17th centuries, the rulers of successive Afghan and Mughal dynasties built and glorified seven "cities" in different parts of Delhi. These five centuries also witnessed some of the most outstanding monuments. These architectural splendors still stand as a testimony to the past glory of the Afghan and Mughal architecture.
The Qutub Minar, the iron pillar with a base covered 14.32 meters area and height is 72.5 meters was built in 1199. Construction of Humayun's Tomb, one of the best examples of garden Tomb in the Asian subcontinent started in the year 1564.
Along with it, in the arena of artistic majesty, Old Delhi also showcases the imposing citadel 'The Red Fort' and ' Jama Masjid'. This is the largest mosque in India and was built in the 17th century.
Delhi is best known for its multi-cultural and vibrant aspects and religious tolerance.
